Current Fire Danger in Eagle County
We want to share a quick update on current fire danger in Eagle County from the Eagle Valley Wildland Division.
Right now, fire danger is Moderate, but conditions across the county are drier than we would normally see this time of year. Recent moisture helped temporarily, but overall our forests and vegetation are still stressed from ongoing drought.
What we’re seeing:
• Very little new plant growth – vegetation is using moisture just to stay alive
• Dry soils at lower elevations
• Drying in heavy timber fuels, especially mid‑elevation areas that are already 3–4 weeks ahead of typical seasonal drying
Why this matters:
Even with a “Moderate” rating, these dry heavy fuels can support fast‑moving fires when combined with wind or slope. If we don’t get consistent moisture in May, fire danger could increase quickly as we head into June.
As we move into the busier outdoor season, we’re urging everyone to be especially smart and cautious while recreating. Simple actions can make a big difference in keeping our community safe.

We will continue monitoring conditions closely and will share updates as the season progresses.
