BIG NEWS – The Valley Rd./Hwy 6 Intersection reopens TODAY, end of day!
Yes, you read that right—just in time for the weekend and busy back-to-school traffic next week. We encourage everyone to get out this weekend and practice the new traffic patterns in this area.
Important Reminders:
- The roundabout will be open but not yet complete.
- Construction will continue through October.
- Only one lane will be open through the roundabout initially.
- Traffic patterns and pedestrian routes will change as work progresses.
- The Core Transit Bus Stop will be back at its original location and open (southeast corner at the EVHS entrance) starting August 18.
New Traffic Patterns (see image below):
-
High School Entrance:
-
Entering: Westbound Hwy 6 traffic may turn left into the North High School parking lot. Eastbound Hwy 6 traffic may turn right into the North High School parking lot.
-
Exiting: Vehicles may only turn right (east) onto Hwy 6. To head west, you must exit east, go to the Schoolside Roundabout to turn back west.
-
Oak Ridge Area (Post Office/Ridleys):
-
Entering: Eastbound Hwy 6 motorists may turn left onto Oak Ridge. Westbound Hwy 6 traffic may turn right onto Oak Ridge.
-
Exiting: Vehicles may only turn right (west) onto Hwy 6 and use the new roundabout to redirect east.
-
Eagle Street:
-
Entering: Eastbound Hwy 6 traffic may turn right onto Eagle St., and westbound Hwy 6 motorists may turn left onto Eagle St.
-
Exiting: Eagle St. is now a right turn only onto Hwy 6. To head west from Eagle St., all traffic must now turn right onto Hwy 6 and use the new roundabout to turn back.
Pedestrian Safety (see image below):
- Sidewalk routes will vary daily next week as new sections are poured.
-
Flaggers and Gypsum Engineering and Public Works staff in construction vests will be on-site during morning rush/back-to-school rush all week to guide pedestrians safely.
- Please follow posted signs and directions—routes will change often.
🚦 Please: Drive slowly, stay alert, watch for workers, flaggers, and pedestrians.
Phase I (Porphyry): Road prep and paving are scheduled for August 18–22 or 23 (Saturday only if necessary for paving).
Phase II (River View):
- Utility locating, surveying, and trenching start August 18.
- Asphalt milling for the trench will take place August 21-22.
- Project work will move east from Porphyry & River View toward Hwy 6.
- Door hangers will be delivered early next week.
- Crews will coordinate directly with homeowners as work approaches each property.
- Homeowners may experience temporary driveway access restrictions during the project. On-street parking will be permitted when driveway access is blocked.
-
River View Road is closed within the project area but remains open to local and homeowner traffic only. Residents on River View outside the project area should follow the detour shown in the image below.
- Expect large, deep trenches, rough surfaces, construction materials, equipment, and dust in the street until final paving is complete—it will be messy.
- The estimated completion for this project is the end of September/early October.
- For Gypsum Trash Customers in the project area, please make sure your trash can is as visible as possible for trash crews. If a trash can is missed, please call 970-401-4895 to notify us.
Thank you to all residents for your patience and caution as we complete this important sewer infrastructure upgrade.
