Greetings Gypsum Friends,
We recently made a mistake, and we want to be upfront about it. We know how frustrating it is when things don’t go as planned – and this time, we didn’t meet your expectations or our own!
At our construction update meeting earlier this year, we shared that we would provide notices (door knockers) to the Eagle River Estates neighborhood around the town’s wastewater treatment plant and hold a public meeting before starting work on the multi-year construction project. However, we got our wires crossed and removed the park equipment in Eagle River Estates Park ahead of schedule and before communicating with all of you. We apologize for this mistake.
We had previously said the park would need to be closed and used for additional construction staging space due to limited room at the site and to ensure safety during construction, which will involve heavy truck traffic and ongoing activities over a long period.
We love this park, too, and are committed to preserving as many of the gorgeous trees there as possible. If any trees must be removed during construction, we will replant or replace in all areas unaffected by construction. Once the construction is complete, we’ll ask for your input on what amenities, equipment, and features you'd like in the restored park.
We still plan to do the public outreach we promised. Please watch for neighborhood notices (door knockers) and an upcoming meeting date to discuss the construction details, schedule, and timeline. We are still finalizing the financing and final design details (and they are incredibly complex!) so we will wait until we have more concrete information before setting a meeting date.
This upcoming wastewater treatment plant construction project will be significant and will, at times, have a negative impact on the surrounding neighborhood. We understand it may be disruptive, and we will need everyone’s support, patience, and understanding during the process.
We will do our best to communicate clearly, minimize disruptions, and manage the project efficiently on everyone’s behalf. This new infrastructure is essential to protect public health and safeguard our local waterways, ensuring a cleaner, safer environment for our community. Wastewater treatment plants are truly modern miracles that work 24/7 behind the scenes to afford all of us a great quality of life free of disease, illness and environmental degradation.
We appreciate your support and are grateful for your understanding as we navigate the complexities of this crucial project together.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Rietmann
Gypsum Town Manager
