What's Up with the Water?
Every year, with the increased water demand that comes with summer irrigation, we begin operations at our secondary water treatment plant, the Norgaard Plant. Historically, this is when we receive the most customer inquiries regarding water aesthetics (taste, smell and hardness). The Norgaard plant is supplied by a very different water supply, lower Gypsum Creek, which carries more sediment, more mineralization, and requires a more advanced treatment process. The initial blending of our two source waters (Mosher Spring and lower Gypsum Creek) takes a few weeks to stabilize, and this transitional period is when the changes are most noticeable. In addition, the recent warm temperatures and resulting high runoff volumes, further accentuates the addition of this water supply. Despite these noticeable differences in water aesthetics, we want to reassure Gypsum residents that the water continues to meet all Colorado Department of Public Health regulations and remains completely safe to drink.
Questions? Please reach out to our Utilities Manager at this pre-populated email link. Thank you.
A Friendly Reminder for Gypsum Businesses
Many new or relocating businesses need to check with the town first to make sure they are allowed to operate at the property they are considering. Please ensure your business activities are permitted before purchasing property or entering into lease agreements. Business licenses are also required before operation activities start up. Please contact Matthew VanEyll, Planner with the Community Development Department at (970) 524-1742, to make sure you are picking a good spot for a successful start.
