Yesterday, we informed employees that Xcel Energy was evaluating the potential need for public safety power shutoffs along the Colorado Front Range, including Greeley. As of this afternoon, Xcel is no longer planning preemptive power shutoffs within Greeley city limits. However, there are several things to be aware of:

• Xcel is still planning power shutoffs within nearby areas, including Larimer, Boulder, and Jefferson counties.
• The City of Greeley's Bellevue Water Treatment Plan may experience a power shutoff. Preparation began yesterday to support this area and the employees who reside on site, including attention to generators, fuel, reservoir water, etc.
• Weld County, including Greeley, will be operating under enhanced safety settings for all power lines. Under these settings, power may be shut off if high winds cause objects to contact a line or if lines come into contact with each other. If an outage occurs, restoration may take longer than usual due to high demand on Xcel Energy crews.
• A burn ban will be in effect in the City of Greeley tomorrow. Open burning is not permitted.

At this time, city operations are not disrupted, but we are preparing for possible power outages and that some employees will be affected. If you are affected by a power outage, loss of Wi-Fi, or feel it is unsafe to travel to your work location, please contact your supervisor.

Why

Extremely dry conditions combined with strong winds will create elevated wildfire risk. To reduce the risk of wildfire and support public safety, Xcel is implementing precautions.
