Proactive Approach to Lead Reduction Pays Off for Greeley Water
The Environmental Protection Agency announced a landmark rule called the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) last week that requires water utilities to proactively replace water service lines that contain lead within 10 years.
The new rule strengthens requirements for locating lead pipes, improving testing for lead in water, and ensuring that exposure is minimized while lead water service lines are being replaced.
The Environmental Protection Agency's 2021 Lead and Copper Rule Revision requires utilities serving more than 50,000 people to provide an online inventory of its water service lines by October 16.
Greeley Water customers can search for their property and see its service line material at greeleygov.com/leadprotection.

Greeley Residents Share Ideas, Vision of Sunrise Community
Greeley’s Water and Sewer Department members recently joined other city employees and Sunrise Neighborhood residents to imagine what our community could look like in the future.
The Dream Play Build Workshop encouraged participants to share their stories and ideas through a creative approach to building safer, healthier and more prosperous places.
“The event reminded me that a community thrives when we share a common ground,” said Greeley Water Conservation Manager Dena Egenhoff. “When we come together to imagine and collaborate, we build not just projects but a future where everyone has a voice, and every voice has a value.”

Greeley’s new Flush and Flow Program provides qualified Greeley water customers with a free, directly installed, highly efficient toilet.
How to Participate:
- Check eligibility and sign up at greeleygov.com/flushandflow.
- Schedule a free indoor water efficiency assessment.
- Receive a voucher for up to two free toilets.
- Schedule your free toilet installation.

Prepare Your Lawn This Fall
Summer may be over, but there is still work to be done to ensure your lawn gets a head start next spring.
Lawn Tips This Fall:
- Give your lawn one final mowing to prevent the grass from matting under snow, which can lead to mold and disease.
- Aerate the soil to alleviate compaction and allow water, air and nutrients to reach the root zone.
- Adequately water your lawn before the first freeze.
- Mulched leaves provide valuable nutrients for the soil as they decompose.
- Winterize your irrigation system to prevent pipes from freezing and breaking.

Imagine a Day Without Water
It’s easy to forget the role water plays in our lives, especially when it is available at the twist of a handle. Unfortunately, when disasters like Hurricane Helene occur, water service can be interrupted, and the public can experience firsthand what it’s like not to have water.
Imagine a Day Without Water, celebrated on October 17 this year, is in its 10th year of increasing awareness about the value of water and the crucial services water utilities provide across the country.
The city’s investment in a resilient water system ensures it can deliver safe, reliable and great-tasting drinking water to its customers, even after disasters like the 2020 Cameron Peak Fire occur.
Most Americans will go a lifetime without experiencing a “day without water,” thanks to water utilities that work around the clock to ensure access to clean drinking water. This year, keep those who have experienced “days without water” in your thoughts.
