Keep Your Water Meter Pits Uncovered for Best Results
In 2020, Greeley Water and its partner, Utility Metering Solutions, LLC, (UMS) set out to replace nearly 30,000 aging water meters in Greeley. The city expects the new meters to boost water savings by providing customers with additional tools to manage their water use.
UMS encourages customers to avoid covering their water meter pit with landscaping like rocks and shrubs. The new meters use radio signals to report water usage so it’s important to keep them uncovered.
If UMS staff can’t find the pit, they typically call for a utility locator and that slows their progress. UMS can replace around 200 meters per week if there are no delays.
Learn more about the project and see when your meter is scheduled to be replaced.

Maintaining Our Infrastructure Helps Reduce Water Waste
Greeley's raw water infrastructure consists of ditches, channels and irrigation pipelines that supply untreated water to pump stations.
The city uses untreated water for sprinkler systems in parks, cemeteries, public golf courses, school campuses, HOAs, streetscapes and other private properties.
Non-potable water is a valuable commodity for the city as it reduces costs associated with treatment and irrigation.
Some irrigation pipelines, made of corrugated metal, deteriorate over time and develop leaks. When that occurs, the city replaces the old pipe with more durable materials like concrete or plastic pipes to reduce water waste.

City Receives Help to Test More Water Service Lines
The City of Greeley is conducting a complete inventory of the city’s water service lines and replacing those that contain lead—for free!
This daunting task was made a little easier with the addition of JGR Consult Inc., the city's chosen contractor.
Residents who live in structures built before 1960 and still need to complete the city's service line questionnaire will receive a letter from the city and JGR Consult in mid-May.
The letter includes a link to schedule an appointment with JGR for a 5-minute assessment of the service line in the customer's basement or crawlspace.
Residents who live in houses built before 1981 and prefer to do the test themselves can still do so at greeleygov.com/LeadSurvey—and be eligible to win a $100 gift card.

Landscape Has Us Buzzin'!
Wouldn’t you love to gaze out on this beautiful waterwise landscape while sipping your morning coffee?
Colleen is a Greeley resident and sent in this photo of her family's yard.
“What looks like a lot of work has thrived with mulch to keep weeds down and the soil moist,” Colleen said. “The irrigation system is simple and timed for efficiency. With the world’s water supply shortage, it is important that we conserve water in our homes and yards.”
Send a photo of your waterwise landscape to WaterNews@greeleygov.com. If we use it in a future W&S newsletter, you'll receive some City of Greeley swag.
