Please welcome Matt Knight to the COE Team! As the new LXP Learning & Development Specialist, Matthew serves as the primary contact for the Cornerstone LXP.

Tell us about yourself.

I am a Colorado native with deep roots in this beautiful state. My journey through life has been filled with diverse experiences and roles. I am a proud parent to a two-year-old son named Jaxon, and also a dedicated little league football and wrestling coach. Professionally, I have worked for the State for nine years. I started with the Division of Youth Services (DYS) as a Youth Service Specialist I and II. I then moved on to be the Training Coordinator for Mount View Youth Service Center. 

This is when I discovered my love for the Cornerstone platform, learning everything I could about their Learning Management System. After a promotion with the Office of Staff Development for DYS, I was responsible for managing and maintaining Cornerstone while also facilitating training. I was eventually promoted to the Colorado Department of Human Services where I was the Cornerstone System Administrator. 

What is your favorite course to facilitate? Why?

My favorite course to facilitate is Motivational Interviewing. I believe that communication is a key pillar to the success of individuals and teams. Talking about change is such a difficult conversation to have especially when you are discussing behavioral change. I love to empower people and teach the tools to navigate hard conversations.

What is something you would like to implement for statewide learners in the future?

I am excited to be implementing the Cornerstone Learning Experience Platform (LXP)! The platform will enable the State to provide engaging, and impactful learning experiences. Learners will be empowered to seek out training that is important to them with personal and professional growth opportunities geared toward helping all State of Colorado employees thrive. 

What do you like to do in your free time?

I prioritize a blend of family bonding and personal passions that bring me immense joy and fulfillment. Sharing moments with my wife and son is the core of my happiness, as we create memories together that will last a lifetime. Playing Dungeons and Dragons is another beloved pastime that allows me to delve into imaginative worlds and embark on epic adventures with friends. When I crave the tranquility of nature, you will often find me hiking through scenic trails or casting lines into peaceful waters while fishing.

Staying active and healthy is essential to me, which is why I'm dedicated to CrossFit workouts that challenge both my body and mind. And let's not forget game days—cheering for my favorite teams, the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, and Iowa Hawkeyes, is a cherished tradition that adds excitement and camaraderie to my weekends. Balancing these diverse interests ensures that I can fully appreciate every aspect of life, from quality time with loved ones to pursuing personal passions.

If you could only subscribe to one YouTube channel for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

This was the hardest question of them all because there are so many great YouTube channels. The one that I landed on was Critical Role much to the dismay of my son who without hesitation would say the beloved Ms. Rachel!

I know many of you are eagerly awaiting updates on our most popular training program. We haven't posted new dates for the rest of the year for a couple reasons:

• We are currently redesigning the content based on the feedback from our learners and leaders throughout the State!
• We will soon be migrating to a new Learning Management System (LMS) so future dates will be added later this summer! As we outlined above, over the coming weeks, agencies can expect to receive more information and resources to help navigate this transition smoothly.

That being said, June dates have just been added to COTRAIN, so sign up now if you are interested. Keep an eye on this newsletter for more updates on the redesign and the new LMS.
