Tell us a little bit about your background: I was born and raised in a small beach town in Southern California, and lived there most of my life. Seven years ago my husband and I decided to move to Colorado because we felt it’d be a great place to raise our family. We love the outdoors and all this great state has to offer. I miss the ocean, but think the mountains are equally as majestic.
How long have you been with your current organization? Just over a month.
How did you get into the procurement field? My initial experience with procurement was running my own small food manufacturing company. I had to source ingredients and packaging, and enter into contracts with grocery store chains and food distributors. The numbers, terms, and details were especially important when capital and cash flows were tight in the beginning. When I came to work for the State four years ago, I started out in accounting, but was recruited into procurement and quickly fell in love with it. I received my bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance, yet here I am working on contracts!
Did you work in other professions, and if so where and for how long? I was the Founder of a Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) company for seven years. I also worked for seven years in the real estate industry. I wasn’t an active real estate agent, but I did consider it at one point and obtained my real estate license. I negotiated real estate short sale transactions by working with banks, homeowner associations, the Franchise Tax Board, and real estate agents to orchestrate closed deals that helped both banks and homeowners.
Please share a professional or personal accomplishment you're proud of: Personally, I am most proud of being a mom to three adventurous boys. Professionally, I am proud to work for the State, serving the people of Colorado. It’s rewarding to know I’ve played a small role in some major projects that have affected many people for the better.
Tell us something interesting and unique about yourself: I’ve had three ACL reconstructive knee surgeries from playing soccer and skiing, but I won’t stop being active. It’s worth it. At least that’s what I keep telling myself!
