Consumer Protection Week, All Year Long
The month of March signals the celebration of National Consumer Protection Week. This year, taking place March 1 through March 7, Consumer Protection Week is focused on discussing fraud, scams, and consumer rights. The Federal Trade Commission prepared a variety of resources for consumers, which you can review here:
|
The Division of Real Estate also celebrates Consumer Protection Week, but practices it all year. Awareness of the risk of fraud, scams, and consumer rights is the first step to protecting oneself, but it is a team effort. The Division’s commitment to consumer protection is non-stop year-round, and, along with its partners across the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, the Division of Real Estate shares a common mission: Consumer Protection. Through careful analysis of licensing applications, detailed investigations, and improved educational opportunities for consumers, the Division of Real Estate is a valuable partner for consumers.

Continuing Education: Paramount Importance For Every Real Estate Broker
Every profession and industry evolves over time. Some might even have breakthroughs that revolutionize what we all think of a profession or how we practice that profession. First, being aware of these changes, and second, adapting to these changes is the responsibility of every professional. An essential role of continuing education is to help licensees learn about these changes.
On behalf of the Commission, the Division carefully reviews and approves course applications for continuing education from hundreds of different education providers. These providers offer courses on a wide variety of topics which are designed to reinforce compliance with Colorado laws, rules, and regulations. The Division believes that quality education leads to improved quality of practice and understands that brokers have a choice when selecting their continuing education. Therefore, in early December, when the Colorado Real Estate Commission held a Rulemaking Meeting, it approved changes to the Rules Governing Real Estate Brokers. Many of these changes pertained to continuing education. To help education providers comply with these new rules, and to help improve the overall quality of continuing education, the Division released a helpful bulletin to help education providers understand these changes. That bulletin can be viewed here. Although the bulletin was prepared with education providers in mind, all real estate brokers should review the bulletin to better understand the value of, and the importance of continuing education for the profession.
