Reminder of 2023 - 2024 Mandatory CE Requirements for Plumbers

Hello,

This is a reminder that there is still time to complete the Continuing Education (CE) requirements for your Colorado Master Plumber, Journeyman Plumber, or Residential Plumber license for the current license year (March 1, 2023 – February 29, 2024).

Colorado Statute and Board Rule state that all plumbers with an active license must complete at least eight (8) hours of CE during EACH year of the two-year license period. CE requirements for the current license year must be completed by February 29, 2024.

  • Though 16 hours of CE are required for the full two-year license period, no more than eight (8) hours will be accepted by the Board during a single year of licensure.
  • If you were licensed by examination during the current license period (March 1, 2023 – February 28, 2025), you are not required to complete any CE until after you renew your license in 2025.

To qualify for credit, the CE hours must be selected from among the Core Competencies below in any combination:

  • Cross connection and backflow prevention
  • Fixtures, Faucets and Fixture Fittings
  • Indirect/Special Waste
  • Industry Product Training
  • Non-potable Water Systems
  • Plumbing Administration
  • Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems
  • Sanitary Drainage
  • Special Piping (Medical Gas)
  • Storm Drainage
  • System piping and components
  • Traps, Interceptors and Separators
  • Vents – DVM
  • Water Heaters
  • Water Supply and Distribution
  • Safety related to the plumbing industry

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the completion of eight (8) hours of CE each year of the license period, the following is required:

  • At least four (4) CE hours must be related to codes as defined in Board Rule. All four (4) hours may be completed in a single year or divided between the two (2) years of licensure.
  • No more than two (2) hours of CE will be accepted in courses related to safety training. There is no minimum requirement in safety training.
  • All plumbers must read the current Colorado Plumbing Code before the renewal of their license in 2025.

ATTESTED CE PROVIDER LIST

ALL CE COURSES must be taken through a CE vendor or provider that has attested to the Board that their courses and instructors meet the continuing education requirements of Board Rule. For more information on the attested CE providers, consult the CE Provider List. The list contains the vendor names, contact information, and method of instruction. For information on specific courses, you must contact the vendor directly.

  • Licensees are responsible for ensuring that CE courses comply with the state’s requirements.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • There is no limit on the number of CE hours that may be completed online. All eight (8) hours may be completed online.
  • More information about CE may be found at colorado.gov/Plumbing/CE. There you will find detailed information about the CE program and the Board’s requirements.

This is not a notification of audit. Audits of compliance will be conducted following the end of the license period. If a selected plumber does not comply with the audit, disciplinary action for failure to comply with requirements may be considered by the Board.
