State Electrical Board Adopts 2023 National Electrical Code

The State Electrical Board recently adopted the 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC).

This becomes effective August 1, 2023.

Municipalities (including: incorporated town or city, county, city and county, or qualified state institution of higher education)

Pursuant to section 12-115-107(2)(a), C.R.S., Municipalities must adhere to the minimum standards of the adopted code. The statute does not prohibit a municipality from making and enforcing any such standards that are more stringent than the minimum standards adopted by the board.

ACTION REQUIRED
A Municipality that makes standards that are more stringent than the adopted code, pursuant to section 12-115-107(2)(a), C.R.S., must furnish a copy of their amended codes to the Board office. Send a copy of the amended code to the Board office at dora_electricalboard@state.co.us.

To review the current adoption, visit the Board's website

Examinations on the 2023 NEC will be offered on an August 1, 2023, roll-out. There will be a 90 day window where candidates can select to take an exam on the 2020 codes or the 2023 codes. To schedule your examination, visit PSI Services.
