To have a Colorado CDR license, you are required to meet and abide by all requirements set forth in the Colorado Medical Practice Act, Medical Board Rules and Regulations, Medical Board Policies, and any other statutes or rules relevant to your practice as a physician in the state of Colorado.

You will need to review your Healthcare Professions Profile:

Compact physicians are required to update their Healthcare Professions Profile within 30 days of a reportable event, even when not in renewal. To remain compliant with Colorado law, please review and update your profile by visiting https://dpo.colorado.gov/HPPP, selecting "Create/Update a Profile" under the "Licensing Services" menu, and following the instructions provided. Failure to update a Healthcare Professions Profile may result in an administrative fine of up to $5,000 and referral to the Colorado Medical Board for possible disciplinary action. If you have any questions, you may contact the program at dora_dpo_hppp@state.co.us or 303-894-5942

Medical Malpractice Insurance Requirements:

If you plan on working as a licensed Compact Physician in the state of Colorado you must hold the appropriate Medical Malpractice Insurance within the state of Colorado. You will be able to complete this attestation within the HPPP process listed above. For more information on the requirement please review the Colorado Medical Board Rules and Regulations website.

Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Registration:

If you obtain or hold a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration in Colorado you are required to register and maintain an account with the Colorado PDMP. To check your Colorado PDMP registration status, please contact the Colorado PDMP's 24/7 support at (855) 263-6403. To register and maintain your PDMP account please visit the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program website.

Substance Use Prevention Training Requirement:

Before the next renewal of your Colorado CDR license, you are required to meet the Colorado Board's substance use prevention training requirements, which includes the completion of two (2) hours of training to demonstrate competency regarding the following topics/areas: best practices for opioid prescribing per the Division’s current Policy for Prescribing and Dispensing Opioids, recognition of substance use disorders, referral of patients with suspected substance use disorders for treatment, and the use of the electronic prescription drug monitoring program.

If you maintain a national board certification that requires equivalent substance use prevention training or you do not prescribe opioids, you may attest to as much to the Colorado Medical Board to receive an exemption. The Board reserves the right to review all documentation regarding substance use prevention training.

Thank you
