The Colorado Division of Securities Announces 2023 Investment Adviser Examination Priorities

January 31, 2023 -- The Colorado Division of Securities (the “Division”) released its 2023 investment adviser examination priorities.  Publication of the priorities should help advisory firms comply with newly adopted rules and focus attention on common deficiencies when reviewing their compliance programs or preparing for examinations.  Examinations serve to protect investors by ensuring that advisers are following the Colorado laws and rules that govern them.  The priorities list is not meant to cover all matters that will be reviewed in an examination and advisers are required to comply with all applicable rules, which can be found on the Division’s website at Statutes and Rules.

The Division reminds all firms that they are required to maintain books and records, and upon request of the Division staff, are expected to produce them in a timely manner for review.

The priorities along with other information on the examination process can be found on the Division’s website at The Examination Process. If you have any questions or need to contact the Division, our phone number is 303-894-2320 or you can email us at dora_SecuritiesWebsite@state.co.us.
