January 27th is International Holocaust Remembrance Day

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is an international memorial day designated to mark the anniversary of the January 27, 1945, liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp.

Today, we honor those innocent lives lost. We honor, too, Holocaust survivors, whose lives were unalterably shaped by horrific persecution.

By the end of World War II, the Holocaust had claimed the lives of over 6 million Jewish people—nearly two out of every three in Europe. As many as 1.5 million Roma and Sinti, Slavs, as well as persons with disabilities, had been killed by the Nazis and their collaborators, and countless more died while sheltering their friends, family, and neighbors from persecution. This International Day of Remembrance is as important today as ever, as the US Department of State has reported rising anti-Semitism and Holocaust distortion and denial around the world.

The Colorado Civil Rights Division is dedicated to the enforcement of the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA). CADA prohibits discrimination based on protected class in employment, housing, and places of public accommodation. The CCRD enforces CADA primarily through the investigation of complaints of discrimination, but also through mediation and education.
