Reminder of 2017 - 2020 CE Requirements for Colorado-Licensed Electricians

Hello,

This is a reminder that there is still time to complete the Continuing Education (CE) requirements associated with your Colorado Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, or Residential Wireman license. Colorado Statute and Board Rule state that all electricians with an active license must complete at least 24 hours of CE during each three-year license cycle. CE requirements must be completed before renewing a license. The expiration date for the current license cycle is September 30, 2020.

If you were licensed by examination during the current license cycle (October 1, 2017 – September 30, 2020), you are not required to complete any CE for this renewal.

CORE COMPETENCIES

CE hours must be selected from among the National Electrical Code Core Competencies:

  • Grounding and Bonding
  • National Electrical Code Changes
  • Theory and Calculations
  • Wiring Methods
  • Safety Related to the Electrical Industry

A minimum of four (4) hours is required in National Electrical Code Changes. The remaining hours may be selected in any combination of the Core Competencies, as is desired, however no more than four (4) hours will be credited in Safety Related to the Electrical Industry.

APPROVED PROVIDER LIST

ALL CE COURSES must be taken through a CE vendor or provider that has been approved by the Board. For more information on Board-approved providers, consult the CE Approved Provider List. The list contains the vendor names, types of courses offered, and contact information. For information on specific courses approved for a vendor, you must contact the vendor directly. Licensees are responsible for ensuring that CE courses comply with the state’s requirements.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • There is no limit on the number of CE hours that may be completed online. All 24 hours may be completed online.
  • More information on CE requirements may be found at our website: colorado.gov/Electrical/CE. There you will find detailed information about the CE program and the Board’s requirements.

This is not a notification of audit. Audits of compliance will be conducted following the end of the license cycle. If a selected licensee does not comply with the audit, disciplinary action for failure to comply with requirements may be considered by the Board.
