42nd Annual State Demography Office Annual Demography Summit Registration Open
The State Demography Summit is a one-day conference that offers attendees the opportunity to learn about the most current population and economic estimates and forecasts for the state, its regions, counties, and municipalities.
This year’s summit will occur on Friday, November 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd, Arvada, CO 80003
This year’s Summit will feature presentations on:
- Updates to Colorado’s Population Estimates: Where have we seen recent growth in the state and what is driving it? And some new methods to derive important demographic variables.
- State and Regional Economic Trends: National and state trends and where is job growth expected in the state and what is influencing regional changes?
- Population Forecasts: Over the next ten years, Colorado's population will continue to grow, age, and diversify. Join us as we walk through these changes and explore the impacts of slowing growth and a changing age distribution on long-term household and labor force growth.
- Preparing for Census 2030: Census 2026 test in Colorado Springs and Questionnaire changes.
- Unlocking Insights: New SDO Tools, Applications, and Enhancements to SDO American Community Survey Spreadsheets.
- Age in Colorado: From K12 and the labor force to health care and housing and the economy, - How is Age Impacting Colorado?
Registration for this year's summit costs $55.00 per person for in-person registration and $20.00 per person for live stream registration. State of Colorado Employees will receive complimentary registration to the Summit live stream.
Continuing education credits will be available for Real Estate Appraisers and Real Estate Brokers.

2020 Census Supplemental Demographic and Housing Characteristics File Released
The final data release from the 2020 Census, the Supplemental Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (S-DHC) was published by the Census Bureau on September 16, 2024. This data file provides tables that combine the characteristics of households and the people living in them. These tables supplement the data about households and people released in the 2020 Census Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (DHC). Some tables are repeated for race and Hispanic origin groups.
This data file provides tabulations ONLY at the national and state levels for:
- Average household size by age.
- Household type (e.g. family or nonfamily households for the population in households).
- Population under the age of 18 years, by relationship and household type.
- Population in families by age.
- Average family size by age.
- Family type and age for own children under the age of 18 years.
- Total population in occupied housing units by tenure (e.g., whether the home is owned or rented).
- Average household size of occupied housing units by tenure.
Many tables provide data for major race and ethnicity categories.

Caitlin McKennie joins the State Demography Office
Caitlin McKennie will be joining the State Demography Office on October 14th after three years of holding the Talent Pipeline Economist position for the Colorado Workforce Development Council Office and the Colorado Department of Higher Education. In this shared-agency position, Caitlin’s role was motivated by data creation and collection as an analytical tool for informed decision-making surrounding the workforce and higher education. Caitlin has been with the State of Colorado since 2017 and brings extensive experience in public policy and economics in a manner that is outcome-focused and equity-driven. She holds an M.A. in applied economics from the University of Colorado, Denver, and an M.S. in mineral and energy economics from the Colorado School of Mines. Caitlin has also recently obtained her PhD in economics after many years of diligent research surrounding sustainability, energy consumption, household finances, and the general welfare of populations at the state and local levels.
Caitlin will be developing methods to forecast household income and the labor force, and to conduct other economic and demographic studies for the State Demography Office.
Manufacturing Week 2024 – Census Bureau Spotlight on the Semiconductor Industry
As the nation celebrates the 13th annual Manufacturing Week Oct. 4-11, take a look at available U.S. Census Bureau economic data and the most current Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports on the industry
In the first quarter of 2020, there were 1,876 establishments in the semiconductor and related device manufacturing industry, according to BLS. By the first quarter of 2024, that number had risen to 2,545 establishments.
The number of employees rose as well: 185,370 in January 2020 compared to 202,029 in January 2024.
Additionally, the Census Bureau’s Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM) — which is now part of the Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES) — has annual wage statistics for semiconductor and related device manufacturing industry employees but only through 2021.
