Easy Ways To Help Your Patients Access FAMLI
Share FAMLI Materials As Soon as You Can
Your patients may be eligible for paid leave they don't know about. The resources below are designed to be shared directly with patients and their families at intake, during care coordination, or at discharge.
No FAMLI expertise required — just print and pass them along. More languages are available on our Resources page.
Become a Friend of FAMLI
If you're already helping patients navigate care, adding Friend of FAMLI Certification to your toolkit is a short step.
Friend of FAMLI is a free, two-hour certification training that gives clinical and support staff the knowledge to answer common FAMLI questions and help patients file claims confidently.
For care coordinators, social workers, and discharge planners especially, this training means fewer handoffs, faster answers, and more patients getting the benefits they've earned.

 Program & Portal Updates
Reminder: Your Patients Can Have Someone File for Them
If a patient is too ill or incapacitated to file their own FAMLI claim, a family member can do it for them. That person is called a Designated Representative.
No prior authorization from the patient is required if the patient is medically incapacitated. The family member files under their own My FAMLI+ account, not the patient's.
Remember:
- The patient’s health care provider fills out the Serious Health Condition Form.
- The patient’s Designated Representative then submits it to the My FAMLI+ portal.
It's worth letting their family know this option exists. If a patient's family member asks what to do: point them to the Designated Representative page or to famli.colorado.gov.
Healthcare Provider Input Requested
FAMLI teams are seeking provider input for enhancements to the My FAMLI+ Healthcare Provider portal. This brief survey will help inform improvements to:
- Provider registration and account verification
- Staff delegation and access management
- Serious Health Condition certifications

 Workflow Reminders
Reference cheat sheet to support timely processing.
Submit Certifications Electronically
Completing and submitting the Serious Health Condition (SHC) certification directly through My FAMLI+ reduces processing time and helps prevent lost or incomplete pages.
Use the Updated SHC Form
For most claims, it is the only medical certification form FAMLI accepts. Letting patients use other forms typically results in delays to their claim.
Identity Verification via a Notary
In certain cases, FAMLI may ask a claimant to verify their identity with a notary before their claim can move forward. Patients can complete this step with a FAMLI Navigator at our offices (free), through their bank or library, or with a Colorado notary (fees capped at $15).
Check Your New “Assigned Date” Column
The HCP dashboard displays an “Assigned Date” column to help prioritize certification tasks based on when they entered your queue. Reviewing this column regularly can help ensure timely completion of pending requests.
Check Your “Claims” Tab
You will receive a notification on your dashboard when a new Serious Health Condition Form is available to certify. Forms must be completed within seven days of the alert.
Review Absence Parameters Before Submission
Certifications must specify either a 7-day or rolling 30-day absence parameter, but not both. Discussing the patient’s typical work schedule before finalizing the form helps ensure the parameters align with actual leave needs.
