Inspection Reminders for Operators and Inspectors
-
Inspection Types: The Amusement Rides and Devices Regulations discuss annual, daily, new installation, and major modification inspection requirements. The Regulations also require compliance with manufacturer recommendations, which may require additional inspections for some rides and devices - or their components. Some of these inspections can be completed by staff employed by an operator, and manufacturers require them to be performed periodically (weekly, monthly, etc.). On the other hand, some inspections require specialized equipment or personnel, including, but not limited to, non-destructive testing (NDT), using an arborist for tree inspections, and specific training and equipment for anchor (pull) testing.
- Operators: you are responsible for reading the documentation provided by a manufacturer and performing/scheduling inspections accordingly.
- Third Party Inspectors: when performing annual inspections, Section 2-4-1(3) of the Regulations requires your inspection to include “a review of the Operator's Daily Inspection records, inspection and maintenance program records and training records in accordance with the standards adopted by these regulations and the manufacturer’s recommendations, as applicable.”
-
Annual Third Party Inspector Renewal: the Colorado Third-party Inspector application is now live! If you plan to inspect rides and devices in Colorado from April 15, 2026, through April 14, 2027, please apply as soon as possible. While currently approved inspectors may continue conducting inspections through April 14, any inspectors who do not renew their certifications by April 15 will be removed from the Approved Third Party Inspector list.
- Operators: please verify with your chosen inspector that they are certified to do work in Colorado on your scheduled inspection dates.
- Inspectors: when applying, please ensure your accompanying licenses and certifications do not expire prior to April 15, and email copies of your documentation to the Amusement Rides and Devices program at cdle_amusements@state.co.us.

May 13 Keys to Compliance Training for Operators
The Amusement Rides and Devices program is hosting a free, virtual Keys to Compliance Training on May 13, 2026, to help Operators and their staff better understand the Amusement Rides and Devices Regulations. The training will focus on the sections of the Regulations that are pertinent to Operators and will also highlight where the Regulations have changed between the 2019 and 2024 (current) editions. There will also be time for Operators to ask questions about operating regulated amusement rides and devices in Colorado.
Please register for the training to let us know that you plan to attend.
If you require an accommodation, or wish to meet in person, please email Lara Kreuter at lara.kreuter@state.co.us.
The Amusement Rides and Devices program hosts these free, virtual Keys to Compliance Trainings in May, August, and November each year. If you hire new staff, promote existing staff, or wish to review the Regulations on an ongoing basis, please take advantage of this resource. We regularly update our email signatures and Division calendar with the registration details for the upcoming training session.
