Thank You Comcast!
Comcast has partnered with Serve Colorado and the Office of the Future of Work (OFW) since the beginning of the Colorado Digital Navigator Pilot Program. During the first year of the pilot program, Comcast provided $600,000 in grant funding and in-kind contributions to pilot program grantees, The Learning Source and Loveland Public Library. Much of the funding was used to purchase laptops and hotspots to distribute to Coloradans who received services from a digital navigator.
Comcast has expanded its support of the pilot program by donating 100 new Dell laptops to Project Worthmore for digital navigators (DNs) to distribute to community members throughout the Denver metro area. On October 17, OFW Digital Navigator, Chad Cullen, gave the first of these laptops to a community member from Aurora who recently got a job after not working for a few years. She is learning all of the basics of using a laptop, and hopes to learn to design flyers as part of her new role.
Each Digital Navigator will distribute laptops to community members who have had at least 3 appointments, need a laptop, and have completed a Northstar Digital Literacy assessment and modules.
Celebrate One Year of Digital Navigation Services
On Friday, October 11, 2024, over 50 people attended an event held at the Central Library in Aurora. The event was part of the recognition and celebration of National Digital Inclusion Week. During its first year of implementation provided through the SB 22-140 Digital Navigation Funding, the pilot program served more than 3,500 people across the state at over 70 locations by 42 digital navigators.
Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera gave opening remarks on the state’s commitment to closing the digital divide in Colorado. John Kelly, Executive Director of Serve Colorado, highlighted the importance of community engagement and service to fellow Coloradans. Leaders from the digital navigator programs at the OFW, The Learning Source and Loveland Public Library thanked the digital navigators for all they do to bring digital access to the members of our community.
Jessie Hawthorn, Digital Navigator Program Administrator, who partnered with Serve Colorado to develop and implement the pilot program, recognized Nate Stone, the manager of the Denver Public Library Digital Navigator Program and the digital navigators on his team who played an important role in the training and on-the-job learning of the AmeriCorps members and OFW digital navigators.
By the end of the year, OFW will be releasing a report on the progress of the statewide Colorado Digital Navigator Program. The report will be published on the Digital Equity Teams’ website and announced in this newsletter.
