Health care providers are important to Colorado’s paid Family and Medical Leave (FAMLI) program. We need health care providers to register and verify their license in My FAMLI+. Your role as a health care provider is vital in making sure that the FAMLI program is an accessible and meaningful benefit for Colorado workers.
When you register in My FAMLI+ and become verified, you can certify your patient claims electronically. The system will make sure you do not omit any critical information that we need.

Delegated Staff Members
My FAMLI+ allows you to add an administrator or supporting medical staff to your account as a delegate. Before you do that you will need to set up your own account. Remember, this is your account, and you are the primary account holder. Only your license should be uploaded to the account for verification. If your chosen delegate is also a licensed provider, they must not upload their license credentials on your account. As your delegate, they are certifying medical claims on your behalf.
Having a delegated staff member makes certifying your patients easy! If you're registered and have verified your license in My FAMLI+, you or your delegated staff member will provide an elevated patient experience by eliminating paperwork and expediting the paid medical leave approval process. This can result in faster claim-processing times for your patients, allowing them to focus on their prescribed treatment plan, maintain their health insurance coverage, and receive partial wage replacement when they’re unable to work.
How many delegated staff members can I add to my account?
Health care providers are allowed to have an unlimited number of staff members (including nurses, medical assistants and office staff) to complete documentation in the My FAMLI+ portal on behalf of the licensed provider.

FAMLI Celebrates Pride Month
As the country and the State of Colorado celebrates Pride Month, the FAMLI Division is focusing on its Commitment to Inclusion. FAMLI recognizes that individuals form significant bonds with others that are outside of the “traditional family unit.” You can read more about the factors we consider when it comes to familial relationships on our Medical Leave to Care for a Family Member page.
This focus on inclusivity means that the LGBTQ+ community have the same access to benefits—whether they are using it to take care of a family member or to bond with a new child.
When a family member applies for leave to take care of your patient, your role is simple. As their health care provider, you fill out and sign a serious health condition form on behalf of the family member that is applying.

Fathers can take family bonding leave too!
New parents are eligible for paid leave anytime within the first 12 months after a birth, adoption or foster care placement. The leave doesn’t have to be taken concurrently.
The parents of most children born or adopted in 2023 will be eligible for paid leave in 2024 until the child’s first birthday (or one year after placement). That’s in addition to any leave they may have received from their employers in 2023.
Applicants applying for parental bonding leave, need to provide proof of birth, which can be a birth certificate or documentation from a health care provider that verifies the birth. If the birthing parent needs to file a medical leave claim because of their own serious health condition, a health care provider will need to certify that the birthing parent experienced a birth and/or pregnancy complication to receive up to an additional 4 weeks of paid leave. Your patients will need to apply for this additional benefit amount as medical leave to care for their own serious health condition, it cannot be taken as bonding leave.
