 Summer Operations Update
The Dillon Marina is preparing for a busy summer boating season as water levels on Dillon Reservoir are expected to run lower than average.
In a recent interview with Spencer Wilson of CBS Colorado, Dillon Marina Director Craig Simson discussed how conditions on the reservoir could affect operations and visitor traffic at the marina this summer. Lower water levels tied to reduced snowpack and warmer conditions may impact access around the reservoir. As a result, Dillon Marina could see increased activity as boaters seek available launch locations.
Simson noted that Dillon’s boat ramp is designed to extend farther into the reservoir than some others around the lake, which should allow it to remain operational even if water levels drop significantly. However, with potentially fewer launch options elsewhere on the reservoir, Dillon Marina may experience heavier traffic, particularly on peak weekends.
“We’re preparing for the possibility that more boaters will be launching from Dillon this summer,” Simson said in the interview.
Marina staff are planning for the increased demand and will continue to operate aquatic nuisance species inspections for every vessel entering the reservoir. These inspections are required to help protect Dillon Reservoir from invasive species and may contribute to longer wait times during busy periods. Visitors planning to boat on Dillon Reservoir this summer are encouraged to arrive early, allow extra time for inspections and launching, and follow marina staff guidance to help keep operations running smoothly.
Despite the challenges that lower water levels can bring, marina staff are preparing for a full season and look forward to welcoming residents and visitors back to the reservoir.
Federal Grant Supports Summit County Boat Ranger Program
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office has received a federal grant to support its Boat Ranger Program on Dillon Reservoir—an exciting win for the local boating and recreation community. Congressman Joe Neguse was instrumental in helping secure the funding, which will strengthen safety and education efforts on the reservoir.
Boat Rangers play a critical role in educating boaters and recreationalists about safe and responsible water use. Through on-the-water outreach and guidance at launch areas, they help visitors understand boating regulations, safety practices, and how to protect the reservoir’s natural environment. The program was created in response to growing recreational use on Dillon Reservoir, with rangers focused on both education and enforcement to keep the water safe for everyone.
This federal funding will cover the costs to build a permanent structure at the Pine Cove Campground, where a temporary trailer has sat for around six years. The grant will also pay for two new boats, an underwater remotely operated vehicle and side-scan sonar, all replacements for current equipment. The upgrades will ensure a continued presence on the reservoir during the busy recreation season and supports a safe, enjoyable experience for all who visit Dillon Reservoir.

Dillon Amphitheater Courtesy Dock to Be Relocated this Summer
The Dillon Marina would like to inform residents and visitors that the courtesy dock normally installed near the Dillon Amphitheater will not be in place for the 2026 summer season. Due to the low water levels anticipated on Dillon Reservoir following a dry winter, the marina is making operational adjustments to help maintain safe and efficient boating access. The amphitheater courtesy dock will instead be relocated to the Dillon Marina launch ramp, where it will be used to create an additional boat launch area.
This temporary change will help accommodate increased demand at the launch ramp and improve boat launching efficiency during periods of lower reservoir levels. Boaters and visitors planning to attend events at the Dillon Amphitheater this summer should plan accordingly, as boat tie-ups will not be available at the amphitheater shoreline.
