A Note from Marina Director Craig Simson
It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that on the afternoon of November 13 our beloved friend and co-worker, Donny Nazario, passed away of natural causes while working outside of the marina shop, even though life saving measures were taken immediately by the marina staff and Summit EMS.
Donny was promoted to our Aquatic Nuisance Species Lead and served this marina and our community for 18 years. If you had the privilege of knowing Donny, or even just being helped by Donny, I’m sure you will agree that his love shined through in every waking moment. Donny didn’t want for much and truly lived off the energy and love of those around him.
On Monday, November 20, friends and co-workers gathered on a cold evening to honor Donny on the waters of Lake Dillon. Beautiful words were spoken and many tears were shed through laughter, while memories were shared. A wreath was laid in his memory and Donny was honored with an eight-bells ceremony. An eight-bells ceremony is a way to officially relieve a sailor from watch.
Donny has sailed over the horizon, however there are open arms on the distant shore waiting to greet him. Donny’s mother, Peggy, resides in Puerto Rico and has gone to great effort to let us know how much this marina and community meant to him. I have reached out to Peggy to reminder her of what a great person she raised.
Although this message begins with a heavy heart, which will take time to heal, it ends with love and best wishes to you and yours over this holiday season. I wish you the best and encourage you to remember how much you all meant to this great person. Make sure to hug your loved ones everyday.
Sincerely,
Craig Simson
P.S. Wherever Donny is, I guarantee there will be no aquatic nuisance species getting in!
