CIAC Celebrates Six Years of Operational Milestones with Safe2Tell Program
Denver, CO – The Colorado Information Analysis Center (CIAC), within the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, celebrated the sixth anniversary of partnering with the Colorado Attorney General Office's Safe2Tell program. A CIAC operational and analytical team receives and responds to every Safe2Tell report submitted each day by phone, website or mobile app. Since March 25, 2019, the CIAC’s Safe2Tell team has handled more than 132,000 reports, representing 68 percent of all reports received by the program since its inception.
“These numbers are more than just data. The numbers represent interventions, life-saving actions and meaningful connections with Colorado’s youth and schools during moments of crisis or concern,” said Kevin McElyea, director of the CIAC. “We commend all who have contributed to Safe2Tell’s success, including our partners at the Attorney General’s Office, schools and districts across the state, dedicated law enforcement professionals and most importantly, the analysts who are there 24/7 to take and assess each report.”
Reports handled by the center's Safe2Tell analysts have included urgent concerns such as suicidal ideation, threats involving weapons or explosives and a wide range of other student safety and wellness issues. Analysts not only coordinate responses with local partners but also help ensure that youth in distress are connected to resources that can help them navigate life’s challenges.
“While team members have come and gone over the years, their contributions remain deeply valued. The commitment, professionalism, and heart that every Analyst brings to this mission is evident in the work they do. The work that makes a real difference in the lives of students, educators, families and communities statewide,” said McElyea.

Safe2Tell is a successful violence intervention and prevention program for students to anonymously report threats to their own and others’ safety. Safe2Tell is not an emergency response unit nor mental health counseling service provider; it is an information pathway for distributing anonymous reports to local law enforcement and school officials required by state law.
