The Office of School Safety Set to Launch January Speakers Series Promoting School Safety Topics
Lakewood, Colo. – The Office of School Safety (OSS) is set to launch a free virtual Speakers’ Series on upcoming Tuesdays in January promoting school safety topics related to issues youth are confronted with in today's technology-driven environment. The virtual presentations are scheduled for upcoming Tuesdays in January from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for parents, educators, guardians and anyone interested in learning about methods to keep youth safe from daily digital influences impacting the lives of students. The virtual January Speakers’ Series is set to cover the following topics:
- Tuesday, January 9
- Sextortion presented by Angelie Donzanti, Senior Criminal Analyst, San Jose Police Department
- Tuesday, January16
- Porn Isn’t Going Away: So What Do We Do About It? Presented by Margaret Ochoa and and Kati Garner, Colorado Office of School Safety
- Tuesday, January 23
- Scammers Use of Artificial Intelligence, presented by Colton Easton, Safer Schools Together
- Tuesday, January 30
- Cyberbullying, presented by Sameer Hinduja, Ph.D., co-founder of Cyberbullying Research Center
“What is readily accessible to children online has shocked all adults,” said Director Chris Harms, Office of School Safety. “Our goal is to help educate parents about the importance of cyber security to protect their children from cyber predators and how social media has an impact on youth.”
The series is free; however, one must be registered to receive the Zoom link. Zoom allows the OSS to provide a link to a recording of the presentations up to 30 days after the live event.
