Laura Strother has been hired as the director of the State Unit on Aging (SUA). The SUA is located within the Division of Aging and Adult Protective Services which is one of the four divisions within the Office of Adult, Aging and Disability Services under the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS).
In her new position, Laura will be responsible for overseeing the SUA program as well as managing and guiding SUA staff. This position provides statewide supervision and guidance to the 16 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) in the administration of the services provided with the Older Americans Act and State Funding for Senior Services. Laura will lead the strategic direction and long-term planning, including the State Plan on Aging, as well as program changes associated with federal or state regulations.
Since May, Laura has served as the interim director of the State Unit on Aging. Prior to her role as the interim director, Laura held other leadership positions at CDHS including the director of county relations and the interim director of strategic operations. Laura started her career at CDHS as the monitoring and compliance analyst for the State Unit on Aging.
Prior to her work at CDHS, Laura was the planning and advocacy coordinator for the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging for 12 years.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Gerontology from Quinnipiac University and a Masters of Sociology degree from the University of Colorado Boulder.
