Boulder County, CO – In partnership with Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts, Boulder County Elections is excited to celebrate this week, April 6-10, 2026 as our 7th annual “High School Student Voter Registration Awareness Week.” The effort aims to promote voter registration and pre-registration for high school students. Students as young as 15 may pre-register to vote. Additionally, other metro counties, including Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, and Jefferson Counties, will also be working with their high schools in various capacities to celebrate High School Student Voter Registration Awareness week.
During Student Voter Registration Awareness Week and the weeks following, schools are asked to encourage and promote voter registration and provide voting information by:
- Making voter registration accessible and convenient and/or by holding voter registration events
- Displaying educational posters/flyers with registration information
- Leveraging formal and trusted communication channels for voter registration information – including school emails, loudspeaker announcements, and classroom presentations
- Inviting Boulder County Elections to host a registration table during school hours or present during a class or at an assembly
“Each year, we’re grateful for the strong collaboration with BVSD and SVVSD to promote voter registration within our schools,” stated Boulder County Clerk and Recorder Molly Fitzpatrick. “Research tells us that early engagement makes a tremendous difference. Being asked to register and being able to ask questions about the election process makes our youth far more prepared and motivated to vote when that first ballot arrives.”
"Student Voter Registration Awareness Week offers our teachers and staff a valuable opportunity to highlight the significance of voter registration and educate students about the voting process," said Diane Lauer, Chief Academic Officer for the St. Vrain Valley Schools. "Partnering with Boulder County Elections helps our students develop habits for positive civic engagement prior to graduation."
“Student Voter Registration Awareness Week is an exciting chance to spark momentum in our schools around civic engagement and voting,” stated BVSD Superintendent Dr. Rob Anderson. “This is especially critical with our graduating seniors since many of them will have the opportunity to cast their first ballot this summer during the primary.”
The week was first designated and celebrated in early February 2020, in preparation for the March Presidential Primary. In 2021, the week celebration was moved to early April to better equip graduating seniors with the information they needed to know about their voter registration and voting options if leaving home for college or elsewhere.
Additionally, as part of the partnership with BVSD and SVVSD, Boulder County Elections works with schools to identify and train at least one voter registration liaison at each high school. These liaisons are then trained to help students get registered and excited about voting and act as our point of contact for distributing additional election information, such as job opportunities for students to serve as election judges.
