Drone Application of Herbicide Scheduled for the Red Hill Open Space Area in December
An herbicide application using drone technology is scheduled at the Red Hill open space area, located west of Highway 36. The application is scheduled to take place between Dec. 1 and Dec. 31.
The herbicides being applied are Rejuvra (indaziflam) and Plateau. The operation will be conducted by certified drone operators. Spraying will only occur under safe weather conditions, and all applications will maintain a minimum distance of 50 feet from property boundaries and 660 feet from residences, in full compliance with Boulder County’s Integrated Weed Management Plan.
Drone spraying is a safer and more precise alternative to traditional methods. Drones:
- Operate at low altitudes (12 feet or less),
- Move at slower, controlled speeds,
- Follow pre-programmed flight paths to target specific, small areas,
- Reduce exposure risks for personnel and the environment.
This application supports Boulder County’s ongoing efforts to eliminate invasive cheatgrass in High Biodiversity Areas along the foothills, protect native ecosystems, and reduces wildfire risks.
