We do not expect any service interruptions, even if there is a government shutdown.

• Congress has not yet passed a budget for the federal fiscal year that starts Oct. 1, 2025. 

• If a shutdown happens, Boulder County Housing Authority (BCHA) will continue regular operations. 

• BCHA expects to receive Federal funds to cover Housing Choice Voucher payments through October and the first two weeks of November. 

• We will share updates if anything changes. 

What’s Happening 

Congress is still debating the federal budget for the 2026 fiscal year. The government is currently being funded under a temporary measure (called a “continuing resolution”) that ends Sept. 30, 2025. If a full budget isn’t passed in time, some parts of the federal government may shut down. 

This situation has happened before. Congress is currently on recess and may not return before the deadline. While a federal shutdown can cause disruption, BCHA will not shut down and will continue providing services. 

What This Means for You

• BCHA is not a federal agency, and our staff are not federal employees. 

• We will stay open even if the federal government closes some of its offices. 

• We expect to have enough funding in place to continue Housing Choice Voucher payments and administrative operations through October and part of November. 

• We are staying in close contact with our national housing partners and monitoring updates from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). 

BCHA is Prepared

We’ve been through federal shutdowns before, including: 

• A 16-day shutdown in 2013 

• A 2-day shutdown in 2018 

• A 34-day shutdown from late 2018 to early 2019 

Each time, we continued serving our community without interruption.
