Boulder County's Medicare Counseling volunteers are SHIP (State Health Insurance Program) counselors who provide nonbiased education and information to Medicare eligibles to help them with their billing issues and appeals claims. These volunteers continually train to stay current with not only Medicare rules and regulations, but also in Medicaid, so they can help clients understand their benefits and coverage and how the two programs fit together. Volunteers attend trainings on a wide variety of topics including Medicaid, brain injury, hospice, fraud prevention, home health, skilled nursing, etc. They work Feb. through Dec. each year in support of Medicare beneficiaries and their families. In 2023, the program recorded 1,303 volunteer hours! During the Medicare Open Enrollment season, these amazing volunteers had 891 service hours with 892 contacts.
Thank you and congratulations!

Mindfulness meditation is a practice of encouraging attention to the present moment. By allowing for awareness of what is most present now, we develop our capacity for moments of focus, concentration, and being in our lives. Jon Kabat-Zinn, Professor of Medicine emeritus at UMASS Medical School and founder of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR) describes mindfulness as “the awareness that arises from paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” This could be considered the essence of mindfulness meditation. Some benefits of the practice may include positive impacts on health, increased sense of well-being, improvements in sleep, reductions in anxiety and depression, lower blood pressure, and pain management skills.
What: Each session will include a guided meditation, with emphasis on bringing purposeful attention to our experience. We will begin with a 20-minute guided meditation, followed by a 10-minute period for reflections and questions about the practice. Beginners and experienced meditators are welcome.
When: Tuesdays in May, 10-10:30 a.m.
Where: Zoom
