Impact Development Fund offers in-person intake assistance at the Marshall Roc Recovery Center in April and May
Intake Specialists will be onsite at the Marshall ROC Recovery Center for 10 days in April and 9 days in May, including Saturday, May 18. Impact Development Fund has launched a new appointment booking form, which can also be accessed through the organization's Disaster Recovery website.
Virtual appointments with intake specialists are now available and can be scheduled up to 24 hours prior to the requested appointment time via the new appointment booking form. Survivors may also call the Disaster Recovery hotline 970-744-4835 and an Intake Specialist will help you book an appointment over the phone.
When booking your appointment for an Intake Specialist's assistance with submitting a new application or multiple applications online, please choose the option for "In-Person Application Assistance." This longer hour and a half appointment is intended to help survivors submit a new application. For applications which have already been submitted and in need of follow up, continued document collection, and questions, please select one of the specialized appointments for the specific program.
Different types of appointments are available on different dates based on staff coverage. In-person appointments can be booked any time up to 48 hours prior to the requested appointment. This allows the time needed for the Intake Specialist to review your file and communicate any document requests prior to the visit. Thank you to to Marshall ROC for providing Impact Development Fund the space for these in-person appointments.

House passes bill to prevent price gouging on rent after a disaster
On March 11, the House passed legislation that would prevent excessive increases in rent in the wake of a disaster. HB24-1259 passed by a vote of 43-18.
“Many Coloradans saw rents skyrocket after the Marshall Fire, and those who had lost their homes were forced to juggle exorbitant rents while they tried to rebuild their lives,” said Rep. Kyle Brown, D-Louisville. “Disasters, like wildfires, cause financial and emotional trauma, and no one deserves to be taken advantage of while they try to piece their life back together. This legislation adds essential protections for Coloradans so they don’t experience excessive rent increases in the aftermath of a disaster.” Read more about the bill preventing price gouging.

Following the Marshall Fire, a recent CU Boulder study has shown that soil toxicity levels around destroyed homes are mostly minor. Researchers found slightly higher concentrations of toxic metals in burned areas compared to unburned ones, but below health concern thresholds. The study should ease worries for residents and officials, its authors said. Read more about CU Boulder's soil toxicity study.

Marshall Fire Unified Research survey reminder
The Marshall Fire Recovery and Resiliency Working Group study builds on existing theories of post-disaster recovery decision-making to examine a new and increasingly relevant set of questions about how and why pre-disaster resilience policies survive or shift in the aftermath of disaster events. This work is crucially important in order to understand how to make resilience policies themselves more robust in the face of an expanding set of climate risks. Specifically, the study is guided by theories of post-disaster recovery and resilience that describe how local government policies succeed or fail after catastrophic events. Learn more about the survey, or complete it here.
