Governor Polis visited a home impacted by the Marshall Fire today to hold a bill signing ceremony to help with future wildfires and disasters. With lessons learned from the fire, Gov. Polis formally signed into law HB23-1174: Homeowner's Insurance Underinsurance, HB23-1288: Fair Access to Insurance Requirements Plan, HB23-1240: Sales Use Tax Exemption Wildfire Disaster Construction, and HB23-1254: Habitability of Residential Premises.

The Boulder County Commissioners have proclaimed May 2023 as Wildfire Awareness Month in Boulder County – an opportunity for residents to find out more about wildfire preparedness and mitigation, including the county’s work and how residents can take action. May would traditionally have been the start of wildfire season, but as the Marshall Fire taught us less than a year and a half ago, the climate crisis has introduced the concept of year-long wildfire risk – which makes education and mitigation all the more important. Learn actions you can take to prepare for future wildfires. 

Jewish Family Service and Community Foundation Boulder County continue to offer Boulder County Crisis Counseling to those affected by the Marshall Fire. The program offers 10 free individual or family counseling sessions and provides a pool of more than 250 licensed providers from which to choose. Counseling services are available until July 31, 2023, or until all funding allocated for this purpose is expended, whichever comes first. Join Marshall Restoring Our Community (MROC) as they host Saturday Fun from 10 a.m. to noon. Each Saturday will have a different theme. The first Saturday of the month will be an arts & craft theme; the second Saturday will be board games, cards and puzzles; the third Saturday is technology help; and the fourth is knitting and crocheting.
