Marshall Fire Impacts On Transportation

Boulder Flatirons

Over the past month, Boulder County community members have been in recovery from the tragic Marshall Fire that spread across part of the county, specially Superior and Louisville. While the Disaster and Assistance Center (DAC) closed on January 22, many other assistance programs are in place to help victims of the fire.

Updates and resources about how fire has impacted transit throughout the affected areas are listed below.

Marshall Fire-Related Transportation and Transit Resources

General Boulder County Marshall Fire Updates.

Boulder County will dispose of smoke detectors in homes impacted by the Marshall Fire.

Marshall Fire Debris Removal Program.

Coalton Trailhead and trails to remain closed through February due to Marshall Fire Mesa fire damage.

Colorado Car Share is providing free car service to those affected by the fire.

Provide Input on Transit and Intersectional Equity

Research has proven that public transit systems are failing to adequately meet diverse needs, particularly those of women, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Increased research is needed to make public transit feel safe for all people, regardless of their identities.

The Colorado Department of Transportation's Office of Innovative Mobility (OIM) aims to gather data on women's, LGBTQIA+ peoples', and people with disabilities' needs and experiences in using transit.

OIM research fellow Dani McLean would like to connect with you and/or the community you serve, hear your stories, and use your stories to inform recommendations to improve transportation from an intersectional equity lens. This could be in the form of a group discussion, individual conversations, a forum, or whatever you feel is most appropriate. If this is something you are interested in participating in, please contact Dani at dani.mclean@state.co.us or 970-978-2340.
