BCAAA Ombudsmen Are Here to Serve

If you or a loved one lives in an assisted living or nursing home, you know that COVID-19 has dramatically impacted these homes, the people who live there, and their loved ones. Those of us who live in long term care are much more isolated. The BCAAA Long Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO) program is still active and serve as a resource to residents and loved ones of residents in long-term care. While LTCO are not physically in nursing homes and assisted livings, we are maintaining regular contact with those we serve, following all orders and regulations in place.

Know your rights - LTCO help residents resolve problems and ensure quality care and services. You can reach email us or give us a call at 303-441-1173 with any questions or concerns.

Thank you, Medicare Volunteers!

We want to thank and feature all of our Medicare volunteers this month for their dedication to our program and to the beneficiaries of Boulder County in providing education, information and support.  They have all gone above and beyond to continue volunteering and helping beneficiaries remotely.

Our thanks go to:

Joanne Ashmun, Charles Bailey, Susan Benson, Donna Braun, Donna Burk, Prudence Carter, Kevin Cummings, Trish Devlin, Matt Henderson, Bob Jamieson, Gerra Lewis, Pat Marshall, Claudia Romans, Jan Sdao, Senta Vagle, and Jo Walsh.

We asked the volunteers to pick a question that speaks to them and respond. Below are some responses.

What is most meaningful to you about your work with Medicare and Boulder County beneficiaries?

  • Helping Medicare beneficiaries navigate the complexities of the Medicare program. Helping people with their initial Medicare enrollment is particularly meaningful.
  • Assisting beneficiaries with information about very important health insurance decisions gives me a sense of accomplishment.
  • Helping people through what can be a complicated process. Relieving people's anxiety about Medicare.
  • The sense that I am really helping people.
  • Getting to know what medical care options are important to them.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering for Boulder County?

  • Working with the fabulous staff.
  • Level of support and encouragement by Boulder County staff and that volunteers are truly appreciated and valued for our contributions.
  • Favorite thing is the teamwork that happens every day. There is always someone available to help or answer questions when needed.
  • I absolutely LOVE and count on the Medicare employees (Maggie, Jean and Karen) to help me with so many issues!
  • Contributing and assisting folks to understand how to navigate the Medicare quagmire.
  • It’s a privilege to be associated with an organization that provides such a valuable service.
