GIVE65 Donor Drive

The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Plus (LGBTQ+) program, in partnership with the Aging Services Foundation of Boulder County is sponsoring a donor drive through GIVE65, a program of Home Instead Senior Care Foundation. GIVE65 is a 65-hour, crowd-fundraising event for nonprofits serving older adults. The 2019 event is July 9-11, with prescheduling of donations allowed July 1-8. Please consider donating to sustain our LGBTQ+ programs at www.give65.org/asfboulder. Rainbow Connections

We are in the midst of launching a pilot of our Rainbow Connections volunteer program to combat social isolation and create community for LGBTQ+ older adults in Boulder County. Volunteers have been trained and are currently being matched with recipients in need of phone and/or in-person connection from another LGBTQ+ or allied community member. Meetings are going well and both volunteers and recipients are reporting more connection and less isolation.  We look forward to growing the program in the Fall, so if you are interested in becoming a volunteer, or if you are interested in being matched with a volunteer, please contact Michael Chifalo at mchifalo@bouldercounty.org.

Project Visibility

A three-hour Project Visibility general training will be offered on Wednesday, July 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the East Boulder Senior Center, at 5660 Sioux Drive in Boulder. The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging's Project Visibility is a dynamic, cultural-sensitivity training that addresses the particular needs and strengths of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Plus (LGBTQ+) older adults. Award-winning, and one of the first of its kind in the nation, the training features a documentary that highlights the experiences of local LGBTQ+ older adults. Project Visibility offers important information, perspectives, and practical tips for working competently with this often invisible population for all caregivers, and others engaged or interested in the lives of older adults. Free and open to the public, but registration required. Coffee Klatch

Our traveling Coffee Klatch has been successful so far this year with discussions about Nutrition, Medicare, Advance Care Planning, End of Life Planning and Caregiving.

Our Summer series continues with an Intergenerational Game Night cosponsored with OASOS, Boulder County Public Health’s LGBTQIA youth group on Thursday, July 25 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the St. Vrain Community Hub in room 112N at 515 Coffman Street in Longmont. Longmont Pride

The AAA supported LGBTQ+ older adults at another successful Longmont Pride this past week. Out Boulder County and the Rainbow Elders held a mixer on June 19 at La Vita Bella Café in Longmont. Over 40 attendees enjoyed delicious treats and a safe space to gather and celebrate Pride Month, and all the progress that has been made during their lifetimes. The festivities continued as hundreds of people of all ages showed their support of the LGBTQ+ community on June 22 at Pride. Community organizations came together to educate and support attendees, representing the LGBT community and allies. The AAA booth included the “best spinning wheel” at the event, which provided education on the history of LGBTQ+ issues and, of course, fabulous prizes! Our visitors got to know more about Rainbows Elders, Project Visibility and overall AAA programming. Our team had a great time getting to know Pride participants and spending a beautiful, rainy afternoon supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
