Construction activity taking place throughout Fourmile Canyon & Salina/Gold Run

There are currently five active construction sites in Fourmile Canyon and Salina/Gold Run:

  • Logan Mill Road landscaping activities - No travel impacts
  • Two retaining wall sites in between Logan Mill Road and Salina Junction, which are the north section of the "Lower Fourmile" project - Up to 15-minute delays
  • Gravel road reconstruction between Wallstreet and Sunset (aka "Upper Fourmile") - Up to 15-minute delays
  • Landscaping and retaining wall construction on Gold Run Road - Intermittent short delays

Lower Fourmile (SH 119 to Salina)

A three-week look ahead schedule is available below for the work in the lower portion of the canyon between Logan Mill Road and Salina Junction. This schedule is not set in stone. All work is weather and crew/equipment availability dependent. For reference, "S" refers to the south section of the project (SH 119 to Poorman) and "N" refers to the north section of the project (Logan Mill to Salina Junction).

Crews are asking that people refrain from walking behind the concrete barriers during and after working hours due to the significant drop-offs between the roadway and the creek where they are excavating material.

I have heard that delays have gone past the 15-minute allotted time-frame on a few occasions. They're doing their best to meet or beat that time, but they have run into problems when adjusting work zone configurations and moving the concrete barriers. I'll try to provide advance notice whenever they plan on resetting a zone.

Upper Fourmile (Wall Street to Sunset)

Gravel road reconstruction between Wall Street and Sunset is expected to take between four and six weeks. Expect to see crews working on the road between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. CEI is doing their best to keep delays as short as possible. Expect a lot of heavy truck traffic over the next few weeks as the old road base is removed and new road base is delivered.

Salina/Gold Run Road

The retaining wall work in the upper portion of Gold Run Road will not require significant travel delays. This project is expected to be complete by the end of August.

Canyon-wide Information

Non-residential cycling remains prohibited in the canyon between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, because a significant amount of hauling activity continues to take place each work day. The Sheriff's Deputy assigned to daily duty in Fourmile is writing tickets to bicyclists who disregard restrictions. They're also watching for speeding, wreckless driving, and other unsafe vehicular travel. Residents who rely on cycling for transportation should contact me for a pass (contact information at bottom).

Cyclists and drivers are required to stop at red lights at the two signals currently being used in the canyon. Failure to comply could result in a ticket.

Construction workers are only allowed to smoke only within their own personal vehicles. Our project managers and inspectors will do their best to enforce this requirement.

I have heard from residents and crew members alike that tensions are increasing in Fourmile. I know it has been a long haul for everyone in the canyon since September 2013 and ongoing construction since then have only added to the pain. Our crews are doing everything they can to keep their work moving forward as quickly as is safely possible. Working conditions are not easy in the tight confines of the canyon, which also make travel conditions tough. We have asked our crews to be respectful and to think about how their actions impact residents, all they ask is the same respect in return.

Thank you for your time, patience, and understanding.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a good evening.

Sincerely,

Andrew Barth
