Update: Search & Rescue Near 4th of July Trailhead

Boulder County, Colo.The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, along with search and rescue teams, resumed searching for the missing hiker that was reported Tuesday, October 30, by two hikers who were hiking in the area of Arapahoe Pass Trail and Arapahoe Glacier Trail.

The hikers reported the possible missing hiker to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office after they heard sounds of distress from someone, but were unable to locate anyone. The previous press release on this incident can be found here.

Search and rescue teams resumed searching at 5:00 A.M. on Wednesday, with additional resources. At approximately 11:30 A.M., rescuers found a deceased adult female approximately two miles from the 4th of July trailhead. They were able to evacuate the body, after the on-scene investigation took place, arriving back at the trailhead at approximately 6:00 P.M. At this time, investigators don’t believe there are suspicious circumstances surrounding this death.

Agencies assisting in this search and recovery were the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Alpine Rescue Team, Boulder Emergency Squad, Front Range Rescue Dogs, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and Summit County Search and Rescue. In total, 32 search and rescue personnel assisted with this incident. In addition, Eldora Mountain Resort generously allowed us the use their facility.  

The identification of the decedent, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be determined by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
