Boulder County, Colo. – Clerk & Recorder vehicle titling and registration
offices, including all three Boulder County locations, will close statewide
Wednesday, August 1 to Friday, August 3 in order to install a new computer
system. The three-day closure will allow for the successful transfer of data
and technical upgrades needed to make the switch. All offices will reopen on
Monday, August 6. State-run driver’s license offices will also be closed
Thursday, August 2 and Friday, August 3 as part of the transition.
With the impending 3-day closure, the Boulder County Clerk
& Recorder’s office is urging residents to renew their registration online
or by mail, if eligible, or to schedule appointments for all other services,
for some time in August after the office reopens (appointment link is available
at www.BoulderCounty.org/MV).
Additionally, many residents are not aware that there is
a one-month grace period for renewing their vehicle. Thus, if a resident’s
registration is set to expire in July, the person actually has until the end of
August to renew without penalty. In most cases, this can even be done online
until the last day of the grace month.
After statewide installation, the Clerk and Recorder’s
office anticipates the new system will help reduce wait times due to faster
transaction speeds. Additionally, in a later phase after its initial rollout, residents will be able to complete a number
of new transactions online that previously required an in-person visit, such as
applying for license plates and requesting emissions extensions.
During the closure, online vehicle registration renewal
will be available (www.Colorado.gov/RenewPlates). Additionally, the
Boulder office self-service motor vehicle renewal express kiosk, which provides
vehicle stickers, will also be accessible during the closure period. There are
additional MV Express Kiosks outside of Boulder County, which residents can use
as well. Locations can be found online at: https://comvexpress.com/kiosks.
