Man found dead near the Mallory Cave Trail

The initial investigation suggests the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound; no foul play is suspected

Boulder County, Colo. - Just after 6:00 p.m., the Sheriff's Communications Center received a 911 call from a man who stated he found what he believed to be the body of a man off of the Mallory Cave Trail, south east of 1800 block of Table Mesa Drive.  Deputies, along with Rocky Mountain rescue, City of Boulder Rangers, and Emergency Services responded to the scene and confirmed the man was deceased.  

Detectives from the Sheriff's Office, along with medical investigators from the Boulder County Coroner's Office, investigated the man's death at the scene.  The preliminary indications are that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and no foul play is suspected. Rocky Mountain Rescue assisted with the transportation of the decedent to the trail head.  

The Coroner's Office is responsible for making the formal identification of the man's body, and to notify his family of his death.  The Coroner's Office is also charged with determining the cause and manner of the man's death.  The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding his death is continuing.
