Lafayette businesses eligible for a sweetheart of a deal on transit passes

Qualifying employers could receive 70% reimbursement for providing transit passes to employees

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County is offering a 70 percent reimbursement for RTD EcoPasses or MyRide cards to businesses in Lafayette who participate in the Lafayette Green Business program. This 2018 pilot program was the winning idea from last year’s “No Fare Lafayette” transit promotion contest, submitted by Lafayette’s own Elise Rooney of Rockton Software.

Many Lafayette businesses are already demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability through the Lafayette Green Business program and Rooney’s idea rose to the top by supporting transit usage by employees in Lafayette while also encouraging new business participants in the Lafayette Green Business program.

“Many people don’t realize they are transit riders until they have a pass or pre-paid card in their back pocket,” said Scott McCarey, multimodal division manager for Boulder County Transportation. “Offering an EcoPass or a MyRide card to your employees is a great way to support the people your business relies on while simultaneously reducing the impact of driving alone to work.”

For Lafayette businesses with 10 or fewer employees, Boulder County will reimburse 70 percent of the amount that businesses load onto MyRide cards for their employees.  Businesses with more than 10 employees can choose to offer MyRide Cards or EcoPasses to their employees.

To be eligible, businesses must be located in Lafayette and participate in the Lafayette Green Business program, either previously or newly enrolled in 2018. There is a maximum reimbursement of $70 per employee for the first year. In year two of the program, Boulder County will reimburse 35 percent of the total value that business purchase for their employees with a maximum of $35 per employee. Businesses with existing EcoPass contracts are not eligible.

Businesses are encouraged to sign up for the program now to get maximum value from the program as EcoPass contracts run on a calendar year basis and the pilot program funds are limited.
