Boulder County, Colo. –The Boulder
County Elections Division has updated the unofficial vote tally for the 2017 Coordinated
Election. Results are available at www.BoulderCountyVotes.org.
The Elections
Division added 1,918 additional ballots to the tally today, for a total of 94,729
ballots counted. Voter turnout in Boulder County this year was 43.96% of active
registered voters.
This updated
tally includes ballots from overseas and military voters as well as voters who
needed to add or confirm a signature on their mail ballot envelope or provide
ID for their ballot to be counted. Additionally, the updated tally includes:
ballots that were damaged and would not go through the scanning equipment and
required duplication by a bipartisan team for scanning; ballots that came into
other county clerk’s offices around the state by Election Day; and ballots that
were picked up at the Denver USPS facility at 7 p.m. on Election Day by
election officials. Finally, today’s update also includes 3 “reserve” ballots
from each precinct and ballot district style to help preserve the anonymity of
any ballots, from the above categories, that needed to be added to the tally today.
The Elections Division reserves these ballots in the case that too few voters
choose to “cure” their signature discrepancy, ID requirement, or missing
signature issue, or if too few military and/or overseas (UOCAVA) ballots get
returned. Without taking this step, the anonymity of these cured or UOCAVA
ballots could be lost if there are not enough ballots to be mixed together to
be counted. However, all of the ballots were voted on or before Election Day,
Tuesday, November 7.
Under Colorado
law, voters who needed to fix a signature discrepancy or missing signature, or
show a copy of their ID had until 4:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, November 15 to
contact our office and resolve the issue. Additionally, overseas and military
ballots returned through the mail had to be received by our office by 4:30 p.m.
today to be counted.
The Boulder
County Elections Division is set to submit the official abstract of votes to
the Secretary of State after the completion of the risk-limiting
audit and the canvass board meeting. A detailed Statement of Vote will be
posted to the website on or before Wednesday, November 22.
