James Canyon Flood Recovery Project Update for November 16, 2017

Hello -

KTI crews and their subcontractors have been busy the last few weeks and continue making great progress on numerous facets of the project. Work remains on schedule for a summer completion. 

The new double 7' x 7' reinforced concrete box culvert at Fike Road has been installed (photo below). There is still work to do at this location, but we're hopeful the traffic signals won't be brought back to finish what is left, like footers, wingwalls, and headwalls. 

As you may have seen, the signals that were at Fike have been moved down the road and are currently set up across James Creek from the park (photo below). They're needed so KTI crews can safely install the massive rockery that is being installed to both protect and support the road. James Canyon Drive/Mill Street will be reduced to one lane in this spot for a few weeks while rock is delivered and set in place by excavator operators.  

Work at the large retaining wall below town is going well. Crews have started to formed and poured a significant portion of the wall and will continue this work until the wall is complete. Other crews will soon follow and begin backfilling the gap between the wall and the current edge of road. If work continues on schedule, KTI is hopeful that the signals and detour will be removed in this location in December. 

On the stream restoration side of the project, crews are focusing work on revegetating areas where creek work is complete. They're pushing hard while the weather remains favorable, so you'll probably see them working on weekends as long as Mother Nature will allow. 

There's still a bit more work to complete on the culvert at Castle Gulch, so expect infrequent, short delays in this spot for another few weeks. 

There will be no work taking place next Thursday or Friday, Nov. 23 and 24 so everyone can enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. The break is well earned and deserved for workers and residents alike.
