Visibility for LGBT Elders at Boulder PrideFest 2017

replace

Earlier this month, Out Boulder County welcomed the Rainbow Elders as a community cornerstone of Boulder PrideFest, a widely attended, energetic, and engaging Pride celebration that burst with community involvement throughout the entire week of Pride events.

The exciting week of events began with a Rainbow Elders mixer at Golden West, graciously and beautifully organized by BCAAA volunteer Mark Holdbrooks, where community members enjoyed social activities such as “human BING-O” and informational offerings from LGBT-inclusive housing representatives in Boulder County.  Older LGBT adults in Boulder County continued their involvement by attending other Pride events, including a screening of the film “Real Boy” and a retro-fantastic “80’s Dance Party.”

Everyone in the county seemed to come out on the day of the actual PrideFest on Sunday and the Rainbow Elders/ Project Visibility booth was a hopping and happening place.  A steady troupe of volunteers shared facts about LGBT older adults and the BCAAA in general, while engaging the public in trivia games and prizes. Meanwhile, LGBT Program Specialist, Beit Gorski, made the rounds to the booths of more than 20 community partners interested in expanding inclusive services to the “rainbow elders of Boulder County.”

Visible, out, proud, connected--- by all measures, Boulder PrideFest was a success for LGBT older adults and advocates!
