FREE bike or bus tours highlight planning in Boulder County on Saturday, Oct. 21

Boulder County offering planning tours for
National Community Planning Month in October

Interested in learning more about planning in Boulder County? Join Boulder County, City of Louisville, City of Lafayette, and City of Superior planning staff members on a guided bike or bus tour of Southeast Boulder County on Saturday, Oct. 21 to see examples of community planning in action.

Riders will learn how land use planning, transportation planning, open space preservation, housing, and historic preservation have shaped the cities and Boulder County’s past. present, and future. 

Tour stops include the Kestrel affordable housing community in Louisville, Isabelle Farm in Lafayette, and the Coal Creek Trail and Mayhoffer farm area. 

The tours are free and open to the public. Participants are asked to register online in advance so tour organizers can better prepare for the event. 

What:    Planning Highlights Bike and Bus Tours
When:   Saturday, October 21, 8:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Start & End: Picnic Shelter at Louisville Community Park, 955 Bella Vista Dr., Louisville, CO 80027 (Google Map)

Optional end point for the bike tours: Feel free to finish the ride at Lucky Pie/Sweet Cow at 637 Front St. 

Three tour options are available:

Long Bike Tour: A 20-mile figure-eight loop through Louisville, Lafayette and Boulder County Open Space on mostly quiet roads and regional trails with planning highlights at 12 stops. Elevation gain is limited to approximately 770 ft. and surfaces are a mix of paved roads, soft-surface trails, and concrete trails. View route in Google Maps.


Short Bike Tour: A 7-mile loop through Louisville, Superior, Lafayette and Boulder County Open Space on mostly quiet roads and regional trails with planning highlights at 6 stops. Elevation gain is limited to approximately 230 ft. and surfaces are a mix of paved roads, soft-surface trails, and concrete trails. View route in Google Maps.


Bus Tour: An approximately 2.5-hour bus tour through Louisville, Lafayette and Boulder County Open Space with planning highlights and a few stops. The bus is wheelchair accessible. 

Participants are asked to bring water bottles and snacks. Water jugs for bottle refills and some snacks will be available.

Background

October is designated as National Community Planning Month by the American Planning Association as a way to highlight the role of planners and planning in each community. The month-long celebration is an opportunity to recognize how planning shapes Boulder County and the work of planners and the planning profession in creating communities of lasting value.
