New Medicare Cards and Open Enrollment

new medicare card

Medicare cards are getting a makeover to fight identity theft. Medicare will begin mailing beneficiaries a new card with a unique new number to identify them.
Medicare has set up a website — and is beginning ads to tell beneficiaries what to expect starting next spring. They'll be instructed to destroy their old cards after they get a new one. New cards may be used right away.
Do you have questions about Medicare? It's almost time to look at your Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan or Medicare Advantage Plan and see if you’re in the most affordable plan for 2018. Reserve your free individual appointment with a Boulder County Medicare Counselor by calling the senior center near you. Spaces are limited! Check out our website for more information.

October is “Residents’ Rights Month,” an annual event that showcases the rights and dignity of residents living in long term care. Residents’ rights are protected by the federal Nursing Home Reform Law, and highlight the rights of residents to self-determination, choice, privacy, dignity, and for them to voice their concerns. You can learn more about residents’ rights by visiting The Consumer Voice or contacting our Long Term Care Ombudsmen at 303-441-1173.

Our second group of ten participants is entering month five and has lost a total of 79 pounds!

hospice

Last month, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) unveiled the Hospice Compare website. The site displays information in a ready-to-use format and provides a snapshot of the quality of care each hospice facility offers to its patients. CMS is working to make healthcare-quality information more transparent and understandable for consumers in order to to empower them to take ownership of their health. By ensuring patients have the information they need to understand their options, CMS is helping individuals make informed healthcare decisions for themselves and their families.
