Fallen Climber at The Dome
27 Year Old Male Falls 50-60 Feet While Climbing
Boulder County, Colo.

On August 5th, 2017 at 10:38 A.M. three friends,
one male and two females, were climbing in the 40000 block of Boulder Canyon
Drive at a popular climbing spot called, “The Dome”. The male (27 years old) and one of the females
were ascending the Owl Route Climb when the male lost his footing and fell approximately
50-60 feet. He struck large rocks as he
fell. Members of the Rocky Mountain
Rescue Group (RMR) were scouting the area looking for a training site when the
male fell. They were on scene within
minutes and were able to render aide. Initially
rescue personnel believed the male had very serious injuries and called for a
medevac helicopter. The helicopter was
cancelled when the male’s condition began to improve. The male was transported to the Boulder
Community Hospital by American Medical Response (AMR). The male has injuries but is conscious and breathing
and able to communicate with emergency personnel.
At the scene of the rescue were Rocky Mountain Rescue Group,
American Medical Response, Boulder Emergency Squad, Four Mile Fire Department,
Boulder County Open Space Rangers, and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. The fall is being investigated by the Boulder
County Sheriff’s Office under case report number 17-4573.
