Advancing the Aging Network's LGBT Responsiveness

Beit

We are pleased to welcome Beit Gorski as our new LGBT Program Specialist! Beit is helping BCAAA and the aging network become more inclusive and responsive through our Project Visibility and Rainbow Elders programs.

While grammar may not have a reputation of being much fun, it can go a long way in demonstrating respect for gender diversity (here’s a quick intro for further reading). Beit uses pronouns that xe finds affirming and respectful (xe/ xyr/ xem). Here’s a sample sentence to get you started: Beit has a pronoun guide at xyr desk because xe knows people want to respect xem and because xe respects xemself.

Contact Beit at 303-441-4518 or via email; learn more about our LGBT programs and services online.

Our Volunteers Go Above and Beyond

Tracy respite volunteer

Did you know that BCAAA has nearly 300 volunteers who generously give their time, ideas and energy every year?

We recently recognized Tracy, a volunteer for the Respite & Companion Program since 2014. Tracy makes weekly visits to provide companionship to older adults who are experiencing social isolation in our community. He is generous with his time, and creative, patient and kind with the people he visits.

We’re grateful for everything he does in the program and for who he is—and most of all, for his support of older adults and their caregivers in Boulder County.

For more information about volunteering, email or call Kari at 720-864-6526.

Funding Legal Services for Older Adults

legal services generic
With Federal Older Americans Act funds, we are able to finance legal services for older adults in our community through Boulder County Legal Services and the Rocky Mountain Legal Center. These services provide legal counsel to older adults on issues involving housing, public benefits, consumer debt, estate planning, and more.

For more information about legal services, contact our Aging & Disability Resource Center today: 303-441-1617 or via email.

Looking for Housing?

2016 housing guide

Our Aging and Disability Resource Center publishes the Boulder County Housing Guide for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities - one of our most popular publications.

The guide features independent housing options, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing homes in Boulder County. This is a robust resource and guide to housing in the county.

Partnering to Improve Quality of Life for Visually Impaired People

Key partnerships with agencies across the county allow us to make a real difference in the lives of older adults. Recently, "Mary" experienced sudden vision loss due to a complication with Diabetes. She was forced to move to a nursing facility following the loss of her sight.

The Beyond Vision Program offered by the Center for People With Disabilities empowered Mary to safely cook meals, do laundry, and get around her house on her own. Because of the training and referrals to other in-home services, Mary is able to stay in her home near extended family and maintain her quality of life and independence.

To connect with the Beyond Vision Program, contact our Aging & Disability Resource Center today: 303-441-1617 or via email.

Choices@Home: Helping People Age in Place

choices@home

Our Choices@Home voucher program has been successful in providing needed in-home homemaker and personal care services to eligible older adults throughout the County.

A recent survey of clients in the program revealed a majority (88%) would not have been able to receive these services without the Choices@Home program, and a whopping 98% said the service helped them stay out of assisted living or nursing care.

800 Cases of Elder Abuse in 2016

Elder Abuse Awards

June 15th was World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Boulder County observed it by recognizing some of our local heroes who have identified abuse or exploitation of an older adult and took action to stop it.

The event took place at the East Boulder Senior Center where 800 ribbons displayed out front represented the elder abuse cases that were processed by the District Attorney’s office in the last year.

We celebrate the active role the heroes of our community play in protecting older adults that may be at risk of being abused or exploited. Thank you! For more information about our Elder Rights program, visit our website.
