Adoption of 2017 National Electric Code

As of July 1, 2017, the Colorado State Electrical Board has adopted the 2017 National Electrical Code (NEC). As a result, Boulder County Building Safety and Inspection Services will be reviewing all permits issued after this date to the 2017 version of the NEC.

Permits that were issued before July 1, 2017 will be inspected to the 2014 National Electrical Code.

This code change will not affect one and two family dwellings. Electrical installations for one and two family dwellings will continue to be reviewed and inspected per the 2015 IRC (which is based on the 2014 NEC).

This code update will most directly impact solar PV contactors and commercial electrical contractors.

If you have questions or need additional information, please email building_official@bouldercounty.org.
