Detectives investigate suspicious deaths in Coal Creek Canyon as homicide

At least two deceased individuals were located in a home in the 800 block of Divide View Drive

Golden, Colo. This morning just after 7:30 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a request for a welfare check on several individuals who lived in the 800 block of Divide View Drive in Coal Creek Canyon. The man requesting the welfare check was concerned about his friends, as he hadn't heard from them in several days.

Deputies, along with rescue personnel, arrived and located the bodies of at least two victims during a hasty search of the residence. Due to suspicious circumstances they encountered when they first arrived, deputies secured the residence and called for sheriff's investigators. The residence remains secured as detectives seek search warrants prior to continuing their investigation. As a result, details are extremely limited and little about the circumstances of the deaths is known at this time.

Investigators from the Sheriff's Office will work in conjunction with the Boulder County District Attorney's Office and the Boulder County Coroner's Office to investigate the deaths. Given the suspicious circumstances initially encountered, the death investigations are being treated as homicide investigations. It is the responsibility of the Boulder County Coroner's Office to determine the identity of the decedents once investigators are able to re-access the residence, and to determine the cause and manner of death.

The investigation is on-going and additional information is not expected to be available until late this afternoon or evening, at the earliest. Informational updates, as they occur, will be posted on Twitter (@BldrCoSheriff), and aggregated updates will be summarized in subsequent media releases.

The case number associated with this investigation is 17-2172.
