Boulder County, Colo. – Residents and homeowners in the Cold Springs Fire evacuation area might be allowed into the fire perimeter with an escort in order to obtain important medications not readily available, and to retrieve or care for animals who haven’t received care or food for more than 48 hours.

Entry will depend on ongoing firefighting and air operations. Residents allowed to enter the fire perimeter will be guided and are expected to turn around upon request. Other reasons for entries into other areas of the fire will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Residents should report to the checkpoint on Ridge Road east of the Peak-to-Peak Highway between 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.  Wednesday, July 13.

Updated Openings: Boulder Canyon from Sugarloaf Road to the Town of Nederland remains closed. Magnolia Road opened at 11:30 a.m. Residents returning to homes in the Magnolia area need to contact their utility provider to restart services.

Evacuations: Mandatory evacuations remain in effect for subdivisions east of the Peak-to-Peak highway, north of Boulder Canyon and south of Sugarloaf Road. Please see the Incident Map for more specific locations.

Road closures and evacuations are being constantly evaluated to determine continued needs or ability to open roads and re-populate evacuated areas. Up to date information can be found at www.BoulderOEM.com/emergency-status/. The goal of this continuous evaluation is to open roads and allow residents, firefighters, and emergency cooperators to be in the area safely together, as well as return residents to their homes as quickly and safely as feasibly possible.

Cooler temperatures, low relative humidity, and sustained winds of 10-15 mph are forecasted today. Mop-up around structures will continue in all subdivisions impacted by the Cold Springs Fire. Blowing ash and other organic material along with fire weakened trees around structures and within the perimeter are expected to be hazards to firefighters working on the fire today. Unburned pockets of fuel within the perimeter will be lined in order to limit the impact of creeping fire. Six Type 1 crews, four Type 2 crews, and 43 engines are working across the 566 acres that have been burned.  A total of 5 residences have been lost.
